lucerne limited edition yogurts*

last wkend, saw an entire section at superT dedicated to "limited edition" prods: special minty this & choc-coated that (news of which will be coming to a blog-near-you later this wk - hopefully w/ the same silly foto treatment). part of the explosion can be attributed to the holiday, but it still reinforced how huge ltd-eds have become. ltd-editioning has even hit yogurt: specifically Lucerne's seasonal limited-edition yogurts w/ half-a-doz flavors incl pumpkin, cranberry-orange, gingerbread, chai latte, caramel apple, and one-other-flavor-that-didn't-appeal-to-me-so-i've-forgotten-what-it-is-&-can't-find-it-on-the-internet. so far, have only tried cranberry, which was good; wish i'd known B4 buying that the blue containers = "lite" = evil splenda

*these just arrived at my local store, but hawaii had 'em first

That pumpkin pie one looks intriguing. Hmm...at my Safeway I could only find the light Limited Editions. Perhaps the low-fat ones taste better since there's no Splenblah.

"Evil Splenda?" Splenda is the only thing that keeps me from going out of my mind when I crave something sweet. Yeah, I know all about the horrible chemical processing that goes into it, and I am sure that in a few years some special interest group will prove that it causes mouse droppings to glow in the dark. But if it tastes good to me, does that make me a dupe?

matter of fact, i just ate the pumpkin and "blah" is the word, and i would attribute it to the splenda

i recognize that splenda is helpful for people who can't do sugar. (that doesn't make them dupes!) to me, who still consumes sugar by the cupful, splenda has an unpleasant metallic taste.

but once i contract diabetes - which seems not at all unlikely, given my consumption patterns - i'm sure i'll come around...

personally, i like the picture treatment! i heard my first christmas carol today on the radio. i don't think they can start that christmas (excuse me, "holiday") nonsense soon enough. i think we should have displays directly after the 4th of july fireworks sizzle to the ground.

NOTE: i have it on good authority that clairevoyant's birthday is in july. methinks her comment (above) is just a ruse to get everyone to treat her birthday like it's xmas

Quick thoughts while I'm making final preps for the wedding this Saturday. The vows are mostly done with a few small changes to keep Kate on her toes and an outline of her expected duties. The next three days will be dedicated to planning my entrance. I'm not quite sure whether I should dangle in gracefully from a helicopter or make the more dramatic statement of flying in on a zip line.

Actually, this will bring it to a halt...

Has anyone (besides me) tried the Costco Kirkland yogurts? They aren't artificially sweetened, but I've had three flavors so far (peach is best, in my opinion) and think they are good and a good value.

kirk: try shopping thrift stores. I don't mind the dnyk label on my jeans when i get them for $5 or $6 a pair. havn't checked out the guy's offerings, but genies on oak lawn is terrific place for us ladies.

re the limited editions: why don't they just call these flavors seasonal. of course, limited edition is actually a beware-word. we all see these full-page ads for limited edition collctibles, just three payments at $39.95 each for a piece that will probably bring $10 or $12, easily, in the future..

tg: i'm sure you saw last week's dmn food section with recipe from mr. wok in plano. seems the son, whom i have met and who is a bright, sttractive uoung guy, is now the new owner=chef. let's hope pappa, who has been creating interesting dishes for years, is still giving him a hand.

the availability of honey crisp apples seems to be dwindling a bit. also in quality. may go back to my fave granny smith's for awhile.

the Gingerbread is okay, not bad considering I'd never think of mixing that into a milk product, but the Caramel Apple is pretty darned delicious. I forgot to look at the calories/fat values, though.

I have the pear to try. My husband said it wasn't bad.

I've tried the Caramel Apple, Pumpkin and Gingerbread. The best of the bunch is definitely the caramel apple, it is incredibly tasty. The gingerbread was probably the worst of the three.
