Green Tea Frappuccino®

Starbucks keeps rollin 'em out, altho this item isn't new if you live in australia or korea (and supposedly taiwan and malaysia and china and japan, too): Green Tea Frappuccino®. it isn't a coffee beverage, it's one of their milkshaky icy drinks w/ ice, milk, and flavoring -- in this case green tea powder and a couplo shots of what appeared to be melon-flavored syrup. It's refreshing, tho not as creamy as green tea ice cream. Green tea keeps getting more and more popular, suppose it'll get more popular now that it's a Starbucks thing? in any case, it's cool that a product that started abroad is coming here rather than the other way around. It'll be available starting Wed july 13.

does the green tea powder have the same health benefits as drinking real green tea?

Did you really post this item at 1:29 a.m.? I guess STARBUCKS is worth getting up in the middle of the night for to you. Or maybe all the caffeine you drink at your coffee chapel just keeps you up late.

i am interested in answer to claire's question on the health benefits. also, do you know the calorie content? as one of the sites you linked to points out, the icy coffee drinks people are guzzling these days are not slimming.

i'm a fan of green tea ice cream, but this drink doesn't sound that great. wouldn't the melon syrup fight the tea flavor?

Starbucks will make you a free one if you ask to sample it before wed. Tried it yesterday and its pretty good, tho pretty dang sweet and melony. If you even remotely dig green tea drinks, you gotta try a place in plano called FatStraws (bubble tea - yum [http://www.fatstraws.net/]) for the green tea milkshake. its stupendous.

tg: seemed to remember that a few items back someone asked why starbucks uses a mermaid on its logo. did i miss the answer?

fat straws sound like a good place, and i'd probably try it if it weren't in baja oklahoma. i like the chewiness of tapioca pearls.

logo: i read somewhere a while ago that there's no real reason for the mermaid; that it was an arbitrary choice by the company that preceded what starbucks is now. if you'd like to indulge in some of that same-old mindless/lockstep anti-starbucks ranting (in the same vein as "they've destroyed the small coffeehouses of the world!"), the internet is full of people who are OUTRAGED that starbucks "declawed" the original mermaid. they took away her nipples! what a horrible corporation! (personally i ignore the mermaid, i think it's ugly w/ or w/out the tits.) but here's an interesting link that shows the progression of the image, along with mentions of the value of early starbucks collectibles:

am investigating that green tea issue raised by clairevoyant (who i thought knew everything already) and calorie count, too. ms. ery, yes i was up at 2 a.m. .. having some grueling deadline action right now.

the price on the green tea is same as regular frappuccinos - $3 to $4; the small was $2.78. the melon syrup did not overpower the green tea flavor; haven't tried a melon chai, i don't think i would like it.

love pearl tea. love Fat Straws (conveniently located for those in collin county! as are most of the bubble tea places. sorry red ennk... ha ha!) tom cruise's meat products, i can do without

Officially, I think the mermaid is Melusine because of the two tails, an oblique reference to the chain's name, borrowed from the over-caffeinated first mate in "Moby Dick." According to Wikipedia: "In European legends and folklore, Melusine (or Melusina) is the name of a spirit of fresh waters in sacred springs and rivers. She is usually depicted as a woman who is a serpent or fish (much like a mermaid) from the waist down. She is also sometimes illustrated with wings, two tails or both." Fresh water, salt water. Go figure.

Metier? It's so hawt when tg talks French! Speaking of which, anybody else hear that Alberto Lombardi plans to open a French restaurant in the Knox area near his Taverna?

clairevoyant, acc/to the site i visited, "instant green tea allows you to consume all the nutrients, even those that are not water soluble." so put that in your cup and drink it. meanwhile, calories of the green tea frapp seem to be the same as a vanilla: approx 500 calories for a 12-ounce drink

yeah get it without the cup and it's like 150 calories

Cafe Toulouse hasn't opened yet. It looks like they still have a fair amount of finish-out to go. The past couple of days, the sidewalk out front has been fenced off (storefront work?). No signage up to announce an opening date.

Speaking of openings, is anything happening with Cafe San Miguel, which was supposed to have opened at the end of June on Henderson in the Taqueria Lupita location? (Taqueria Lupita is still open and operating and I see no signs of work elsewhere in the building.)

And whatever happened with the Pure Raw Cafe? Their opening date got pushed back time and time again. Will they ever open and give Dallas the raw gourmet experience we've been craving these many years?

Scott

Looks like Ms. Tereese is leaving this Starbucks item at the top of the blog as long as possible.

don't you think 500 calories is a lot for a beverage? black coffee has zero.

veryvery busy this week, ms. ery! deadlines deadlines. but there's yer new item

scott, have not heard what up w/ cafe san miguel. as for pure raw, that poor woman seems in way over her head. spose she's been paying rent on that space all this time? i think raw, sadly, is a trend w/out legs. didn't roxanne's, the original palace in calif, close? people SAY they want healthy but it's not what they BUY.
