McCarty's Restaurant & Tavern

If U ever drove on 75 near LBJ, then U saw The Golden Eagle Restaurant, opened by Jack McCarty in 1958. Jack died in ‘72, and tho the McCarty family still owned the bldg, other people ran the Golden Eagle. Its last owner ran it right into the ground, declaring bankruptcy and auctioning off the fixtures in late ’05. Well it’s been reopened by the McCarty family – specifically Jack’s grandson, Jason Brown, whose b.g. includes bartending. They lost the "Golden Eagle" trademark (named after the Golden Eagles football team at Richardson High) so they’re calling it McCarty’s Restaurant & Tavern; they’re reprising the good ol' American style menu with steaks, stews, sammies, & other family recipes.

215 North Central Expwy, Richardson. 972-234-2111. Opening approx may 17

T.G. - the Golden Eagle is part of my commute. And I did see the sign for McCarty's, and wondered what it was. Now I know. Muchas gracias

I liked the links!
Speaking of links, the PGA golfers are here in Charlotte this weekend, just heard that one of them got arrested? I remember when golfers were too gentlemanly to get into trouble!

Clairevoyant's recollection of the days when golfers were gentlemanly shows that she has as much of a window into the deep past as she does the future. Her omniscience runs in both directions! Foward and backward! Is she also ambi-dextrous? Can she rub her stomach with one hand and form circles over her head with the other? Methinks yes!

Golf, the gentlemen's sport. One of the only sports where there's a bar in the clubhouse and the only women allowed inside are hookers. Those guys really know how to do it.

Didn't golf originate in Scotland? The land of abusive drunks who wear skirts?

I don't appreciate your stereotypical thinking, people!!!

If clairevoyant "recollects" gentlemanly golfers, then I guess she has never "seen" Ted Knight, Bill Murray and Rodney Dangerfield on the back nine.

It's a sad echo, a slipping clairevoyant. Time for a chakra renewal link, tg

I ate at the Golden Eagle practically every day during the Summer of '82 while my family was remodeling a house near Heights Park. When I drove by yesterday I saw they have a website (not much up there yet):

When you drive by, you'll see they have a sharp neon sign, too.

Don't bother going! Irish tavern in name only and the service really sucks. Ordered a cobb salad which had a surprising amount of dirt in the lettuce - just thankful I didn't break a tooth! Nothing Irish on the menu. Serving Guiness doesn't qualify one as Irish. Bimbos working there today didn't even know what the World Cup was and it took them 10 minutes to find it. No thanks, I won't be back and I'll be telling everyone else to avoid the disappointment too!

this place has much potential. give it some time to work out the small kinks and it will be great. and even though some cry babies whine about the servers not knowing what the world cup is, McCartys will be doing much business regardless. and ive had the cobb salad which was awesome and didnt have any dirt in it. maybe you need to take a bath before you eat there so you dont get dirt in the food.

McCarty's is awesome! We have been there twice and have had so much fun both times. The sliders (Little bar burgers) where delicious! The best was that even though people were smoking in there, it did not smell like smoke and you didn't leave there smelling like smoke. Love That! The word is going to get out about this place and it will be huge!

I agree with the guy who said the service and food both suck. They ignored us when we went in ...then brought us the wrong order...never asked how anything was...it was like they could care less if we were there so ...guess what...we wont be there again!

The service was terrible. It took forever to get the food out and it was not a busy night. The onion rings and fries are frozen and not good. The salad is just bagged...nothing to brag about. This was our first and last trip there.

It's a Tavern, TV's everywhere, Cold beer and good times. I don't eat cobb salad, but if I did I don't think I'd actually take the time to post to the world I had a good or bad one.
Fast food sucks.
Corporate Cookie cutter food sucks.
(MBM & SYSCO trucks you see on the road bring the same frozen crap to each and everyone of them.) I like McCartys because it's family owned and operated. You find anything and everything wrong with anything if your just that kind of person. Good food rules!!!
