Texas Palominas Buffet

New in Richardson: Texas Palominas Buffet. Which you might say, oh, another buffet, thanks but I love golden corral too much to stray. But Texas Palominas Buffet promises to be different, good, better. it comes from a guy who used to be involved w/ the fadi’s chain, and they’re not so bad, are they? It’s described as a "las vegas style" buffet (i.e., big-big-big) w/ everything made from scratch, bakery on site, and daily-changing menu w/ 200+ items. Oh and it has theme nights. Tue = Tex-mex. Mon & Thu = BBQ. Wed & Fri = seafood. It’s $6.99 at lunch, $8.59 dinner. Two branches already exist in Arlington & Sherman; this is the third.

Palominas? Do they serve horse cutlets?

At October 04, 2006 11:43 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I would guess only the very best horse cutlets, hand-breaded and deep-fried by 5-foot-tall jockeys.

Is "palominas" related to "palomino"? Isn't there a Palomino Bistro?

Are you trying to make us beg for items on Starbucks?

I THINK PALOMINAS MEANS "LITTLE DOVES," WHICH ARE VERY TASTY EITHER RAW OR CHARRED.

(little dogs, more like)

Well, thank goodness! Me and my roomies were beggin for another buffet. After all you can only do "all you can eat" so many times before they start putting your picture by the cash register, if you know what I mean.

These Dallas restaurant reviews are not helpful for me. Also, I used to live in Texas. Ugh. Buffet. I have a horrible memory of seeing a television ad for chocolate chip pancakes at Golden Corral, then actually going the next day and them telling me that most Golden Corrals didn't have the chocolate chip pancakes. I was not a happy Abi.

Did you ever try the prison-style food a Furr's Cafeteria, Abi?

I ate here for breakfast on Sunday morning. Heavy texmex influence (Enchiladas and tacos were availble for "brunch"). Had a large selection of eggs, omlett station, sliced ham in syrup. Good pigs-in-a-blanket. Scrambled Eggs with tortilla pieces was an intresting dish. Can't go wrong for $6.99. I would estimate 40 - 50 items on the breakfast brunch. I'll go back.

Palominas in Richardson is very good. They have a lot of salads to choose from and everything is very fresh. The veggies don't have that steam table taste that so many buffets have. They don't have the steaks that they have at Golden Corral, but there is a large selection of meats. I especially like their Pollo Loco. Also, their deserts are first rate. Try the bread pudding.

Palominas Richardson is awesome! We go there with kids all the time & there's something for everybody. Food is fresh & there is a good variety. Table service is a little off, but hey -- it's a buffet!

Just got home from eating there - I was pleasantly surprised. The food was good except for the mashed potatoes - they were loaded with salt, and tasted as if fresh potatoes were mixed with instant mashed potatoes. The sirloin was tender and juicy, and so was the Pollo Loco. I loved the fried cauliflower and the mac-n-cheese. The Chicken Fajitas were also very good. the best part of the meal was the Tres Leches cake and the REAL banana pudding - I couldn't get enough of it. Overall a really good buffet dining experience.

Just ate breakfast there and the Dear Wife and I didn't really like it.

Poorly-executed tex-mex oriented breakfast. Got full and didn't feel ripped off, but likely won't go back for breakfast.

VERY hit and miss place. "Bar-B-Que" theme day seems to be the worst. Dinosaur ribs and cheap sausage. I need to go on seafood day and see whats up....its okay for the price though.

This is absolutely the WORST food I have ever eaten....and that is not an exaggeration. The place was overrun with every mexican and hindu in town, and there was some very loud mexican cantina music blaring over the sound system. The "steak" they were serving was fatty, and the ribs looked like they were rejects from the slaughter house. Terrible desserts. I honestly felt like I was at a homeless shelter. There was not one pleasant aspect of my dining experience, with the exception that I had a coupon and didn't have to pay full price.

My daughter took me to this restaraunt yesterday(sun.11/09/08)This place was really good.I been to several buffet's around Dallas, but the selection and the food quality was really good, the price was moderate as well,I was suprised I never heard of this place before..and I rarely leave comments on anything..but this I felt compelled to do so..I shall return!

Believe it or not, Palominas and Zorros were started by the same person. They use the exact same recipes.

How do you apply for a job there?

The wife and I really liked Palominas for a period of time but wow; things have really gone down hill. The chicken fried steak has degraded to battered pieces of God only know what, the taco meat has turned in to an over spiced mess of grease and cow parts. The fried chicken has been reduced to a pan full of legs and thighs. (Find a wing? good luck) The cheese is florescent yellow and is as thin as 2% milk. The thin crispy taco shells are a thing of the past. Someone is really cutting corners on quality these days. If you want to taste the way it used to be you would have to drive to Fort Worth and go to Zorro's. Chicken fried steak with steak in it, those wonderful crispy taco shells, sirloin tender and juicy, fajitas that are moist and flavorful. I just ate at Zorro's today and I am ready to go back.

yall, people stop complaining this is a freaking BUFFET so don't expect too much; yall CHEAP crying babies!!!

At May 15, 2009 9:56 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I don't think even a "cheap crying baby" should be exposed to the disgusting quality of food served at Palominas buffet in Richardson. Like others, we enjoyed this when it first opened but haven't been there for a while due to new hours at my job. We went last week and it was horrible. At least if you pay for a buffet, not expecting much, you should get some sort of edible food...dontcha think?

And just because a person goes to a buffet, it doesn't mean they are cheap or there is anything wrong with them. It is still a restaurant and it used to have a variety of excellent food.

I ate there once and never went back. The food was disgusting (poor cuts of crappy meat. everything was fried, cheap desserts). Horrible experience

went there monday with my wife and 8 year old.after browsing for 10 - 15 minuets i gathered what i thought would be the best of the buffet.after one bite i threw in the towel.my wife was dinged 10.00 for her salad.( she`s the smart one!)bottom line,,,30 bones for well,,i would have rather ate the bone.i would not feed this to starving people in third world countries.1 step down from pig slop.trust me.

The buffet spread looked alright so I decided to eat there. First of all, it tasted like everything had a handful of salt in it. The fried chicken was no good, the brisket was like jerky. I normally never spit out my food into my napkin, except maybe if I get some gristle. At the end of the meal, I had a handful of things I could not eat. Disgusting I know. But the food was awful. I would never go there again ever ever. Golden Corral is Fine dining compared to it. Good concept but fire your cooks and get new recipes and start over!!!

I normally don't have much to say
about restaurants because people have so many different opinions, however, I spent the last 30 years in the restaurant business before retiring recently and my opinion of both Golden Corral and the Palomino buffets are as follows...
Golden Corral used to be the best but through a change in local ownership and a cut back in quality
products and cleanliness I just can not go to anyone of the outlets in the DFW area any longer for fear of getting sick ...certainly a waste of time and money....the Palamino.....I was there on Saturday night and let me tell you...it was one of the worst experiences I have ever had in the industry....the roast beef was exceptionally dry and tough to chew, the mashed potatoes were dry and lumpy, the green beans were very under cooked, I tried the liver and had to spit it out ....the so called chicken enchalldas were sour and very salty making me think they were spoiled or not very fresh...over all..a very poor experience...I am sure they are having food cost problems...they have cut the quality of their whole buffet....to say I will not come back is an understatement..I paid over 12.oo dollars for a very bad experience. The service was good as was the desert bar. I could never recomend this as a good place to eat..........I give them another six months in business at this rate.

We ate there the other day and the manager treated us very well. I am extremely allergic to MSG and there was soup base in many of the veggies and most meats were marinated making them off limits. The manager had the cook steam me fresh vegetables with S/P and butter and also had him cook 3 different meat items brom fresh. They went to a lot of trouble and I was very pleased.

Just ate there this afternoon.Found out Ali Baba does not have a Saturday Buffet so I checked out Palaminas. This was the worst food I have ever tasted in my life, and I was in the Marine Corps for almost 10 yrs!!!!The rice, rolls and chicken fajita meats were edible, but the fried chicken, roast beef, beef patty and stuffed crabs were awful.I left half the food on the plate. This place has worst food than Hooters.Thank Goodness for Pepsi Cola.I like buffets,I'm single and they're cheap, but I will never set foot in that place again as long as I live.

I went to this so called Palominas buffet for dinner buffets. Trust me in one word if I say is throwing your money in water. I pretty much checked all the items, though there is a whole variety but none of them is tasty or perfect. Roast beef is so dry and overcooked that you can leterally can streth half a mile to tear the meat. BBQ chickens are over salty and no marination. thre was none there a person can eat that is worth of....just a garbage place to go. Management needs to take care of he food quality. Its cheap but there is nothing worthy to eat.
