Vinny's New York Pizza

Brace yourself: There's no Vinny at Vinny’s New York Pizza. Sorry. They thought "Vinny" sounded Italiany and new yorky. They also say their pizza is true NY-style and w/ a name like Vinny’s, who are you to argue? But hang on, they’re making their own dough/sauce, the crust's reportedly thin, and for now it's BYOB, so maybe slack can be cut. Owner Celia Lopez took over Vinny's from colorful Frankie Carabetta, of Manhattan Bar, Knox Street Pub, Corner Bar, and Rocco’s pizza (next to Club Babalu). Is there all of a sudden a lotta pizza @ knox-henderson?

Well I see it all the time but have never been in. I can't possibly go to every pizza place out there, though I'd never heard anything (good or bad) about Vinney's, until now. So far, we have one so-so.

i'd vote for those free-for-all fridays. i'm sure we come up with something on our own that would be more interesting than another pizza place or starbucks

good to have emmmjay back.

is that tina person that wrote the "all of a sudden" lambast really paula rock?

At August 25, 2005 11:47 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yeah, I was a bit put off by that Tina Blue piece, too. I couldn't believe she wrote that no native English speaker would ever say, "she was hit with a car." Well, if I saw a giant pick up a car and slam it up against a woman's head, I would say she was hit WITH it, not BY it. That Blue just has a total lack of imagination.

TG: I agree with others that you work hard and deserve more time off to pursue your other, paying work, But instead of a free-for-all on Friday, which with twisted's presence might actually evolve into a free=for=all, why not Recipe Fridays? We know you're a talented cook and pastry chef. Probably some nyce visitors also cook and bake. So you give us a recipe, and we discuss it, give our own version, or whatever. If Plano Guy is still around, he could even put it in for you. Personally, I'd love to have one of emmmjay's recipes. I know she must be a fabulous cook to have such a food savy daughter.

I like that idea, Charlotte. Perhaps TG could alternate the posting of the "lead" recipe among commentators.

Speaking of recipes, I used to make a mean pizza from scratch, but now I'll take some dough help from a good pizzaria and take it from there.

But if I remember, it started out with bread flour, yeast in warm water, salt, some secret herbs and spices, and a little club soda (or beer). It made for a really good dough.

You need to scroll down on the Tristram Shandy blog, and you'll see that it devotes an entire item to "Teresa Gubbins".

wow. i bet "she" also insists on sitting so that her dominant, i.e. stabbing hand, is positioned for attack. that is, if she is right-handed, she makes sure any compation sits to the left. if she is left-handed, visa versa. i once had a wife like She, and you don't want to fool with her!

my significant other says i didn't make it clear that cats are not good on thick-crusted pizzas. that is because they are edible and totally delicious on their own (if your toppings all come from a can so that you know you are not going to be sucking up a poisonous mushroom)

I went to Vinny's and urm, well, TG, you already know what I think, but for the rest of you, here goes.

It was a few weeks back and two friends called and said that's where they'd be eating. At first, I thought they meant Fireside Pies (would have been an excellent choice), but it was Vinny's.

I get there, say hello, and we order. One really big hamburger pizza with everthing on it, and a smaller, healthy (as healthy as pizza can be) one with grilled chicken and stuff.

Neither were very good and not very NY style. There is no Vinny and maybe that was the problem. To be fair, the pizza tasted better than the box, which is my new yardstick.

It was better than Isabella's, but not as good as Sal's. I'd rather have Papa John's as they have better sauce.
